The CPU module is a single slot case with an 80486DX4 microprocessor with a speed of 96 MHz and an execution time of 0.4 seconds per Boolean function. The module is equipped with 6MB of battery backed RAM on-board memory and 256KB of non-volatile user flash memory, which also stores the CPU firmware.

The IC697CPX928 is capable of handling up to 12K inputs and outputs in any combination and up to 8K analogue inputs and outputs. It supports 32-bit floating point data.

The IC697CPX928 is configured using programming software. It has no jumper terminals or DIP switches for hardware parameter setting. The application software is programmed by MS-DOS software products or Windows-based software products that run on Windows 95 or Windows NT via Ethernet TCP/IP or via the SNP port.

The controller is equipped with seven (7) status leds, a lithium battery for storing random access memory (RAM) contents, and communication ports such as one (1) RS232 serial port, two (2) RS485 serial ports and one (1) factory reset port.

The IC697CPX928 is compatible for use with a variety of option modules to enhance the CPU and provide it with additional functionality. These optional modules include Ethernet interface modules, programmable co-processors, alphanumeric co-processors, bus controllers, communication modules, I/O link interfaces and the entire IC697 family of discrete and analogue I/O modules.

The IC697CPX928 module requires a nominal current of 3.1 amps. The required input voltage is 5 volts DC. The module is forced air cooled with a rated 70 CFM and can be operated at ambient temperatures from 32 to 140 degrees Fahrenheit.

Without forced air cooling, the operating temperature range of the IC697CPX928 CPU module will drop to 32 to 122 degrees Fahrenheit. Depending on the type of power supply available, 120 volt AC, 240 volt AC or 24 volt DC powered rack fan assemblies can be mounted on the IC697CPX928 module. The CPU module comes with three serial ports, two of which support RS-485 communication and one of which supports RS-232 communication. These serial ports can be used to interface with programming devices for CPU configuration.
