Tension Electronics PFEA112-65 3BSE050091R65

The abb force measuring indenter is manufactured according to ABB’s patented magnetoelastic technology, also known as the piezomagnetic principle. The control unit supplies the indenter with the excitation power, processes the output signals from the indenter and transmits the measured values to an external system. The PFEA111/PFEA112 control unit can be set up and commissioned by the touch of a button. These functions are very easy to implement thanks to the user-friendly interface. Measured values are displayed in the PFEA111/PFEA112 and are communicated to external displays or other peripheral devices via the analogue outputs. Status or alarm messages are displayed on the PFEA111/PFEA112 control unit or output via ProfisBus DP (only valid for PFEA112).

Control unit for power supply to the indenter and signal processing
The abb force measuring indenter is based on ABB’s patented magnetoelastic technology, also known as the piezomagnetic principle. The control unit supplies the head with the magnetisation power, processes the output signals from the head and transmits the measured values to external systems.

ABB TENSOMETER Millmate strip tension measurement – principle of pressure head measurement
The piezomagnetic sensor works on the principle that the permeability of a magnetic material changes under the influence of a mechanical force. The sensor is made from a single piece of stainless steel with four holes punched in the stainless steel body. Through these four holes two sets of coils are wound at an angle to each other. When an alternating current is applied to the primary coil, a magnetic field is generated in the primary coil. Since the primary and secondary coils are at an angle to each other, no magnetic field is generated in the secondary coil as long as there is no load on the sensor. When a mechanical force is applied in the measuring direction of the sensor, the direction of propagation of the magnetic field in the primary coil changes and the secondary coil is incorporated into the magnetic field. As a result of the change in the magnetic field in the secondary coil, an induced potential is generated in this coil. The control unit converts this induced potential into a DC voltage signal proportional to the corresponding force being measured.
Features of ABB’s Millmate strip tension measuring – piezomagnetic indenter
The indenter is made from a single piece of machined stainless steel. It is sensitive only to the force in the direction of measurement. Forces in other directions are absorbed by the indenter due to its special structural design and thus have no effect on the forces in the measuring direction.
Wide measuring range: measuring range of 40:1, up to 200% of the rated range, down to 5% of the rated range.
Repeatable large overload capacity: 10 times the electrical overload capacity of the rated range and more than 30 times the mechanical overload capacity of the rated range, without plastic deformation or fatigue
No calibration required
No physical drift
High power sensor output signal (100mV):Large output signal and carrier frequency for excellent immunity to interference
Low impedance output (10 ohms): the indenter has better noise immunity and the output signal is insensitive to insulation conditions, making it more suitable for the harsh operating environment of mills. The pressure head is protected to IP65 for proper operation in sites with splashing.
