Relay is an electronic control device, it has a control system also known as input circuit, there is also a control system also known as output circuit, usually used in automatic control circuit, it is actually a kind of automatic switch with a smaller current to control a larger current. So in the circuit plays a role in automatic regulation, safety protection, conversion circuits and so on. Electromagnetic relays are generally composed of a core, coil, armature and contact reeds. As long as a certain voltage is added at both ends of the coil, a certain current will flow in the coil, thus producing an electromagnetic effect, and the armature will overcome the pulling force of the return spring to the core under the action of electromagnetic attraction, thus driving the armature’s dynamic contact and static contact normally open contact suction. When the coil is powered off, the electromagnetic suction force also disappears, the armature will return to its original position under the counter force of the spring, so that the moving contact and the original static contact normally closed contact suction. This attracts and releases, thus achieving the purpose of conducting and cutting off in the circuit. For the relay normally open, normally closed contacts, can be so to distinguish like the relay coil is not energized in the disconnected state of static contacts, called normally open contacts; in the connected state of static contacts called normally closed contacts.

As control elements to be summarised, relays have an extended control range, amplification, integrated signals and automatic, remote control and monitoring. For example, multi-contact relays can be used to switch on and off multiple circuits at the same time by means of different contact groups when the control signal reaches a certain value. Amplification is like sensitive relays, intermediate relays, etc., where a very small control quantity can control a very powerful circuit. Combined signals are used when multiple control signals are fed into a multi-winding relay in a defined form and are compared and combined to achieve a predetermined control effect. As for automatic, remote control and monitoring it is for example the relays on automatic devices together with other electrical appliances that can form a programmed control line, thus realising automated operation.

If you take the relay output module and the digital output module to compare, then the difference is that the relay contact capacity, high allowable voltage, generally no common end, so you can directly drive small and medium power loads, such as AC contactors, solenoid valves, etc., but the action speed is low; digital output generally can not directly drive large-capacity loads, slightly larger capacity can only drive miniature relays, but the speed is generally used for signal output, by extending the drive, can also be used to drive large-capacity equipment.
